Several Norwegians have moved to Hawaii because of the climate. However, Robert Iverson had other reasons. He was stationed there as a colonel in the U.S. Air Force. He and his wife enjoyed life in Hawaii so much that they decided to settle there after his retirement.
The Iverson family comes from Groven farm in Orkanger, where they had the surname, Evjen. However when Robert’s father emigrated to USA at age 19, he chose to call himself Iverson. It was just easier. His father settled in Duluth, Minnesota, where he married an immigrant from Finland and worked as a carpenter.
