The Shock of a Lifetime that Ended in a Wonderful Trip to Norway


She received quite a shock, which led to a fantastic experience in Norway. Now she has returned to everyday life on Maui.


Ina Karen Ihu (nee Olsen), called Kikki among friends, admits that she was struck quite speechless when Tore Strømøy called her from Norway to tell her that her half-sister, Dorthea Båtstad from Otta, wanted to meet her.


“I did not know that I had a half-sister. I stood trembling for a long time,” Kikki told us when we met her in her lovely home on Maui.


At 19, her father had emigrated from Totenvika (Skreia) to Canada, where he worked on farms and as a logger. He married in Vancouver and later moved his family to the Seattle area in Washington State. Kikki and her brother Wayne grew up there.
